Content Marketing and Social Media Project
I recently started working on a marketing project for a company through UW-Stout. I will be heading up the content marketing and social media aspects of the project. I want to include as much visual media as possible. Here are a couple portraits from my last photo shoot. Click on one of the images to open the photo carousel.

More From My Fashion and Glamour Portfolio Project
Here are a few more images from my ongoing portfolio project for the Fashion and Glamour Photography class I’m taking at UW-Stout. I don’t have time to write much more than that because I actually have to go to class tonight. I will share one thing though. The day these photos were taken it was really windy outside. I was afraid that setting up a softbox or umbrella would cause my light stand to blow over. An hour before the shoot, I came up with a $5 DIY speedlite reflector that I could use if needed. I shared pictures of how it came together on Google+. Check out this link if you are interested. I haven’t tested it with a portrait yet, but it seemed to work ok with random objects around my house.

Saylon Seven Photo Shoot
These two ladies, Sabrina and April, were kind enough to pose for some pictures after finishing work at the hair salon Saylon Seven. I am so grateful they did because I really like the way the photos turned out. Continue reading

Outdoor Fashion Photos
Here is a set of images that I shot for another assignment in my Fashion and Glamour Photography class at UW-Stout. I was aiming for more of a mainstream, retail fashion look. The assignment was a set of three fashion images shot outdoors.
These photos are also the first I have taken with my new 580 EX II Speedlite. I wanted to shoot during the golden hour before sunset, playing with fill flash and back-lighting with the sun. I didn’t have a light stand or anything to diffuse the flash with, so I had some mixed results. It was a good learning experience though. For instance, I learned that I want some Radio Poppers, a softbox, and a proper light stand (with sand bags, because it was really windy). Always more to buy…
I pushed these images pretty hard in post processing. I developed two copies in Lightroom. One with a cooler white balance, and one that was more yellow. Then I masked the shoes in with the cooler white balance, and kept the background warmer. I was hoping for some nice color contrast. I added quite bit of sharpening to the shoes too.
These photos turned out almost like what I imagined, but I am looking forward to having some better equipment, and trying again. I think learning to light with flash on location will really take my work up a notch. Look for more trials and errors posted here soon.
Timelapse Video Behind the Scenes of a Photo Shoot in Class
Here is a look behind the scenes of the photo shoot from my last photography class at UW Stout. This timelapse video was recorded with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone. I uploaded the video directly from my phone to You Tube. Then the music and dissolves were added with the built in video editor at youtube.com/editor.
Capturing Movement in the Photo Studio
Last Thursday the subject of my photography class at UW Stout was capturing movement in the studio. Continue reading
Studio Fashion Photography
These images are from the third assignment in my Fashion and Glamour Photography class at UW-Stout. The assignment was a fashion-style image that is lit with studio strobe lights.
Ambient light fashion photography
These photos were taken for the second assignment in my Fashion and Glamour Photography course at UW-Stout. The assignment was a series of three fashion photography-style images shot with ambient light only. To get the images, I used light from a South facing window on a sunny day. I simply hung a white bed sheet over the window to diffuse the light, and make a nice background. Then I bounced some of the light back on to the model with a reflector. A white background might seem like an odd choice for a white wedding dress, but I actually thought it gave the photos a nice look. I made sure that the details on the dress were still visible, but let the edges bleed into the background for a bright, pure white look. Overall I think they turned out pretty nice considering the only light source used was one window.
Narrative Portrait Series: Bob’s Antique Outboard Motor Collection
These images are of a man who collects and restores antique outboard boat motors. The series is a result of my first assignment in my photography course at UW-Stout this semester. Continue reading

New ICT Portfolio Page
Over the weekend I have been making a few changes to my blog. I am preparing to start a Master of Science program in Information Communication Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Basically, I will be taking the next two years to learn everything I can about creating and distributing visual media. Here are some (not all) of the courses I will be taking:
- Cross-Media Marketing Systems
- Graphic Communication Practicum
- Publication Production
- Web Production & Distribution
- Advertising and P. R. Photography
- Video Production
- Nature Photography
- Fashion and Glamour Photography
- Product Photography
I will be sharing as much of the process as I can on my blog. The program requires an e-portfolio, and I also plan to build up a photography portfolio and video reel, which will each have their own pages here. Thanks for looking, and I hope you will check in again as I post more of my work online.
