Help Portrait Eau Claire

Last Saturday I volunteered for the Help Portrait charity organization with several other UW Stout students and faculty. The image above, taken with my phone, shows the equipment set up by the Stout crew. We worked from 9 am to 4 pm, and the event in Eau Claire helped over 100 people get portraits made. http://help-portrait.com/

Former President Clinton visited Eau Claire today. I took a few snap shots of the event with my dslr, which I hope to upload soon, but here is the scene from the lens of my phone as we wait for Clinton to arrive.

Reverse Through-the-Viewfinder Photography

I took this photo with my smartphone pointed backwards through this antique Kodak camera. I had to point the viewfinder at the dog to get her image on the front. Then I did a little post processing with the built in effects on the phone, and shared it through my WordPress app. Not bad for never using a computer.

Panoramic Photo with Android 4 Smartphone

This photo was taken with the panorama setting on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It does a surprisingly good job of putting together a clear photo. You just push a button, move the phone in a horizontal path, and push the button again when you are done. The phone automatically creates one long image from multiple exposures. There is some evidence of the blending if you look at the crowd, where people were cut in half or appear more than once. Other than that, I think it turned out pretty well.

Timelapse Video Behind the Scenes of a Photo Shoot in Class

Here is a look behind the scenes of the photo shoot from my last photography class at UW Stout. This timelapse video was recorded with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone. I uploaded the video directly from my phone to You Tube. Then the music and dissolves were added with the built in video editor at youtube.com/editor.

Galaxy Nexus Timelapse Video

This is a timelapse video I created with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone. The camera has a neat feature for creating a timelapse video from still pictures automatically. I set it to take a picture every second, and hit record. Then I placed my phone in a sunglasses holder strap on the sun visor in my SUV, and went for a drive. As soon as I stopped the recording, the video was ready to watch. It is pretty amazing that the phone can put together the images that quickly. My guess is that it puts them together at 30 frames per second, meaning 30 seconds of real time is compressed into 1 second on the video. That is why it looks like everything is moving really fast.

I uploaded the video to You Tube from my phone. The music was added using the editing tools on You Tube.
