These are photos of baby Layla. This was the first time I tried to photograph a baby. She did a great job, giving me lots of smiles. During the shoot I noticed that there is a rhythm to a baby’s smile. I kept missing it at first because I was shooting too early. When Layla would see something funny, her smile would slowly grow bigger and bigger, then disappear all at once. Eventually I figured out how long to wait to catch that really big smile. I had to take lots of shots to make sure that I got some in focus. I opened up the aperture to f2.5 on some of these to get that super shallow depth of field. That is scary territory for keeping the eyes in focus. Especially since you can’t just tell a baby to hold still. Eventually all that modeling must have worn Layla out because she was sleeping by the end of the shoot.
